CloroxPro lists a shelf life in the specs of every pack it sells: 12 months for the 75-count Fresh Scent and Lemon Scent canisters, 24 months for the 700-count bucket and its refill. The window runs from manufacture, not from the day the lid was first pulled back.

Clorox publishes one shelf life per pack and does not split it into opened and unopened — the canister is the same sealed container before and after the first wipe, provided the lid is closed. What ends a canister early is a lid left open. A wipe is a cloth carrying a measured dose of liquid; a dry wipe carries none of it.

How to tell it's gone off

  • The top wipe is stiff or dry, or tears instead of pulling free wet.
  • The stack has shrunk away from the walls of the canister.
  • A wipe leaves a surface merely damp rather than visibly wet for the full contact time the label asks for.
  • The lot code on the pack puts it past the printed window — Clorox reads its codes as two characters of plant, two digits of year, then the three-digit day of that year.

If you use it anyway

Degraded performance

An expired wipe still wipes. What it may no longer do is disinfect reliably: the dose of active on the cloth is what does the killing, and both the published shelf life and a dried-out canister cut into that dose. You are left with a surface that looks cleaned and no guarantee underneath it. Nothing is damaged and nothing is hazardous — the cost is a job you believed was finished.

Why it goes off — DRYING & ACTIVE DECAY

Two things run down at once. The liquid evaporates whenever the lid is not sealed, and the quaternary ammonium active in what remains slowly loses strength on its own — which is why Clorox prints a shelf life rather than leaving the pack undated. Neither change shows on the outside of the canister.

How to store it

Lid closed, every time — a canister that has dried out is finished regardless of what the date says.
